Chapter 2

Bucky x Reader (x Avengers)

“Here you go, little one. Just like always.” Loki handed (name) a glass of iced coffee, which he mildly froze after preparing. (Name) muttered in appreciation, and took a small sip. The tower today was a bit chatty, and it was enough for (Name) to withstand. She sat next to Loki for breakfast.

“So!” Steve smiled among the Avengers. “Bucky is sharing a room with (Name)!”

The tower got quiet, and everyone stared at him. To break the silence, Natasha pounced on him with frustration. Clint had a hard time to hold her back. (Name) sulked as Loki protectively put in arm around her. On the corner stood Bucky, who was only focusing on (Name).

“YOU ARE ASKING FOR A DEATH WISH!” Natasha roared. “I HAVE SEEN (NAME) IN HER—“

Right before she could continue, Thor helped Clint carry Natasha off of Steve. Thor restrained her as Clint helped Steve up. (Name) was utterly confused and startled. Tony and Bruce stared at Bucky, who was staring back to see what happens next. Bucky was rather entertained by the tower fighting. Looking back at (Name), she looked like she was about to get angry. About.

“Lady Natasha! Why must you attack the captain? Lady (Name) looks alright!” Thor asked.

Natasha huffed. “I’m sorry, but Steve, I am telling you, Bucky isn’t the way you—“

“He’s fine!” Steve was getting sick of the judgement. “He’s changed! Haven’t you, Bucky?”

“Yeah, sure.” Bucky said from afar. “(Name)’s fine too. She’s just… hmm.”

“I swear, Bucky if you make her in anyway hurt I will rip you into fucking shreds.” Natasha growled. “If you manage to go through her phase, that is.”

“He won’t!” Steve shook his head. “It’s only his first day! Can we please get things back to normal?!”

“Tony, I’m going to the lab. Call me when (Name) finally gets assertive,” Bruce sighs. “I’m going to fix that mess you made. I told you that the flames will burst if you add your stupid grape jelly oil.”

“I’m going to get breakfast across the street. Capsicles landed on my food.” Tony says also, and the science brothers leave, not wanting to take part of an argument.

“Darn, you okay, (Name)? What happened last night?” Steve was starting to worry, whether or not Natasha was right.

(Name) went back to her innocent, calm state. “I’m fine. I slept.”

“There’s a lot of weapons in her room.” Clint jumped down from the ceiling vent. “Everything else is fine.”

“Fuck you.” Bucky glared. “You have no business there.”

“I’m telling (Name).” Clint puts his hands up in sarcasm.

“I think Bucky is nice.” (Name) said lightly, then looking up to Bucky. “We’ll be great friends, right?”

Bucky blushed a little, turning away. “Mhmm.”

“Phew. See, Nat? She’s fine. (Name) can be alone with Bucky.” The Captain smiled in relief.

“Be careful. Both of you. All of you.” Natasha said, leaving. Clint followed her down the hallway. Thor heard the bell of the toaster, and grabbed his toasted pop tarts. He ate them as he walked to his room.

“I’ll see you later, Buck. Sam is racing me down at the square.” Steve leaves also. All was left was Bucky, Loki, and (Name).

“Tell me everything,” Bucky heard Loki speak, the conversation must have already started when everyone else left. Bucky continued to listen.

“I-I don’t know…” (Name) was in deep thought. “I think I forgot about it. The rest of it. All I remember was a lady… A lady with… with…”

“Pink hair? Is she the same one you dream about?” Loki asked.

“Y-yeah,” (Name) tried to catch her thoughts. “She was laughing at something, and she was rambling about… about… I don’t know. I’m sorry.”

“Almost there, don’t think too hard.” Loki smiled. “Maybe tomorrow.”

“Maybe tomorrow.” (Name) repeated. “It’s the same thing, I know it. But the ending gets more detail.”

“It’s working. You are getting your memories back.” Loki assured her. (Name) only looked down at her drink before sipping it again.

“When is the concert thing again?” (Name) asked Loki.

“Tomorrow. Promise me you will be good here alone with the soldier.”

                “Promise.”

“You heard everyone else, Winter Soldier,” Loki said to Bucky. “One single tear, and we will flay you. I will leave you at that.”

One down. Bucky now is left with (Name). Curious yet cautious, he wonders what sort of great power (Name) has within her. Walking closer, (Name) looks up, looking full at Bucky.

“What was that about? I’m not that bad.” Bucky sits next her, leaning back. “I just got brainwashed, but then I got my memories back by a few road trips.”

“Oh. That’s sad.” (Name) commented. “I don’t know what happened to me. Tony says I nearly ruptured the whole earth and they were trying to stop me from helping someone.”

“Hmm.” Bucky said. “Were you the one who flooded the east?”

“How should I know? I don’t know anything.” (Name) shrugged. “By the way, you’re very open just now. What’s the change?”

“Well, you ran from me an hour ago and no one is here,” Bucky sighed. “I just… think sometimes.”

“Do you always look like that? Super grumpy and scary?” (Name) tilted her head, and Bucky huffed.

                “Don’t be so stupid.”

                “S-sorry.”

“… Do you always look like that?”

                “Look like what?”

“That. You cry a lot, huh.”

“No. I only cried yesterday. Almost.”

“Heh.” Bucky grinned, and (Name) started to pout.

“It’s not funny.” (Name)’s brows furrowed. “I wanted a friend, and now I’m glad to have you. Please don’t ruin it for me. You’re scary, but you’re really nice.”

“You don’t look glad,” Bucky said. “Smile.”

(Name) blushed, and her lips curled into a small smile as she looked up. She could have sworn the soldier saying something in Russian and laughing as she did.

“What did you say?” (Name) asked, hoping it wasn’t an insult.

“None of your business.” Bucky reverted back to serious mode.

(Name) looked down at her feet. “Oh okay.”

Bucky decided to observe her again, now the (Name) spaced out. From a distance, he noticed her deep (e/c) eyes that dilated into the sunlight, her dainty hands, and long (h/c) hair that flowed down past her chest. Her simple outfit of a loose tee, short skirt, and high knee socks were enough to cover her voluptuous figure. She would be fit for a dangerous, wild, and foxy seductress, not a shy, curious girl who is kept away like a fragile jewel. This made Bucky more curious about her real past. He wondered what Loki and the others did to make (Name)--

“What are you looking at?” (Name) looked up at Bucky again. He was caught off guard.

“I’m looking at you.” He said. She sulked, submissive.

“For what? Are you going to ask me something? Is there something on me?”

“Innocent. Hmm.” Bucky noted. (Name) notices his observation.

“You can just ask me…” she said. “I can just tell you what I like and stuff. No need for staring. Loki says it’s bad manners.”

                “Too innocent.” Bucky laughed.

“Why? Are you not innocent?” (Name) asked. “Isn’t that… oh, well you are an ex-assassin.”

“Heh. Great friends. Sure.” Bucky crossed his arms. “(Name), as a… new friend, I’m quite impressed.”

“Wow, really?” (Name)’s eyes sparkled, and the room grew brighter as the skies cleared.

“Yeah,” Bucky said. “You said you have memory problems, right? I’ll help you. And I’ll be your first.”

                “First…?”

“Yeah. I’m your first. Friend.” Bucky took the advantage, he came up with a plan. “Best friend. Rely on me.”

“Oh! Yes!” (Name) got excited. “My first best friend! I knew you wouldn’t—“

“Hey, don’t go too far.” Bucky says. “But remember. I’m your first. No matter what. You’re the one who accepted me besides Steve. So, you’ll be my first.”

(Name) was overwhelmed with joy. She was smiling. Her first friend confirmed! She wondered about all the wonderful things they could do together. She imagined walking around outside with her new friend Bucky. He seemed very open minded for an ex-assassin. Serious and scary at times, but kind.  Actually, Steve was right all along. Bucky was the complete opposite from what the others had told her. She couldn’t wait to tell everyone about it. Not only that, it looked like Bucky could help regain her memories. (Name) liked the sound of that and she was very grateful.

Meanwhile, Bucky thought of a way of getting (Name) to be his alone. Even though it requires to be both talkative and observant, he knew he will come up with likely results. Not only a score, but also an interesting backstory for him to remember. This was going to be easy.

------

“Let’s put it this way. He’s very… careful.” Steve said to (Name) during lunch. “He’s still recovering like you are. If you scare him, he’ll jump. Like you. But with knives. And bullets.”

“Oh,” (Name) nodded. “Okay. He said he’s going to be my best friend and that I should rely on him.”

“That’s great!” Steve smiled. The other Avengers overheard and they grew tense. Especially Loki. (Name) smiled too at her achievement, and she continued to tell about her new friend.

“He said that I’m going to be his first!” (Name)’s happiness made her a bit louder. Tony spat out his drink at Bruce, and Natasha’s eyes widened. Loki frowned.

“Steve, you do know what that means, right?” Clint started to worry. “Bucky really likes (Name).”

“That’s good, it means we’ll be best friends forever!” (Name) clasped her hands together.

“No,” Tony sighed as he got up. “Sunset, what he means by that is that he really likes your boobs.”

“Tony!” Bruce was about to explode. “That’s not how you explain that!”

“Why would he like—Loki, I’m confused.” (Name) looked up at the deity with concern.

“… He fancies you. I wonder why.” Loki puts his hand on his chin, thinking.

“I’ll get him to talk.” Natasha proceeds to exit.

                “Nat, please.” Steve stood defensive.

“Don’t worry, I’ll only get the answer everyone wants.” Natasha slams the door.

As Natasha left, all the others hushed, and (Name) started to get concerned. Loki kissed her forehead, whispering reassurance and hoping not to worry.

“Why are you all mad? I made a friend. He talked to me. Isn’t it that good?” (Name)’s tears started to well up in her eyes. “Is he really that bad?”

“He killed millions, he killed my parents.” Tony sighed. “Everyone had a hard time trying to stop him.”

“He killed nearly all of our best agents too.” Clint said. “He was working for a bad person, but luckily Steve got him out just recently. You may not have experienced his dark side, but we all have. It’s really hard to forgive someone like that.”

“I forgive him. He’s like me right? I killed many people too. I just… don’t remember it.” (Name) tried to reason. “And you guys forgave me. You all helped me.”

“Something somehow made you easier to bare. Which is good. And hopefully when your memories come back, you’ll stay the same way you are now.” Bruce smiled. “Like what Clint said, it’s really hard to accept Bucky right now.”

“It’s good you talked to him, I bet he’s happy.” Steve tried to calm her. “He’s just scared. Forget that I said careful. We’re just worried about why he wants to be your first.”

“Oh. Okay.” (Name) rocked on her seat, she didn’t feel as upset anymore. “I understand why all of you are doing this too. All of you being so kind and considerate to me.”

“Because we love you,” Tony said before getting hit by Clint. “Ouch! It’s true though! We also don’t want you to get upset, you’ll destroy the world!”

“We’re your friends, (Name). We don’t want you or anyone to get hurt. An Avenger promise. Besides, you are a part of our team.” Steve smiled. “Natasha and Loki. They care about you the most.”

“Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind.” Tony sniffled. Clint told him to shut the fuck up, and Tony muttered something about Clint being picked up from adoption.

“All you have to work on is controlling your power and feelings.” Bruce pats her shoulder.

“Lady (Name), at this state, you would be able to carry my hammer.” Thor chuckled.

“Don’t be ridiculous,” Loki huffed. “Well (Name), do you feel better? All that they say is true.”

“Yes. Thank you. All of you are the best. Tell that to Natasha too, okay?” (Name) smiled. The Avengers smiled back.

“Little one, straighten your socks and put on your shoes. We are going to the park.” Loki stood, and looked down at (Name), who was then very excited again.

“Yes! This is the best day ever!” (Name) squealed.

-------

“You’re quick.” Bucky said, standing over the debris.

“And you’re still the same,” Natasha wiped the blood off her cheek. “What are you planning to do with (Name)?”

“What’s wrong with liking a woman who finally understands, Romanov?” Bucky frowned. “At least she believes me. Unlike all of you.”

The two sparred each other during the past hour. Bucky got the upper hand, and Natasha merely jumped back after every metal hit. The two ex-Russian assassins stood tall, weaponless to be fair. Bucky cautiously and slowly walked over, and Natasha, raised her arms in defense.

“I’m trying to stop you,” Natasha glared. “What you are doing to (Name) will affect everyone. You have no right to love her like this. And when I mean love—“

“You can’t stop me, Widow. My list of reasons to take her for myself is enough. I observed her since, and she’s clearly acting natural. She’s mine. Besides, I’m trying to help all of you. Our fight is practically pointless.” Bucky stood over Natasha, who backed down a little. “Why are all of you treating her as your fucking pet?”

“The reason why we care about her so much is because we’re in a chain of missions to trace the unexpected disaster in various capitals worldwide. It connects with the parallel outages, the riots, and the numerous classified files everyone wants to see. (Name) is the right hand of someone we have to stop. She somehow reset herself and her mind during her dangerous fit in Yellowstone.” Natasha explained. “We are trying to make her feelings about us constant. We don’t want her killing us and rejoining her friend. She is the key for completing this. One mistake, and our blood is in her hands.”

Bucky relaxed a bit. “Do you really love her? Any of you? In a real way?”

“Of course. She’s sweet. The only time she talked to us was when we revived her in the lab.” Natasha headed for the door, the spar resulted in a draw. “That girl is strong. Before we got her, she actually scared the hell out of me. Threw a fucking car at my helicopter with her powers. I hope she stays innocent. (Name) is the only innocent girl I like.”

“Your story doesn’t change jack shit about my feelings for her. It made me like her even more.” Bucky grinned. “Adds a point of a hundred reasons to get her to be mine.”

--------

That night, (Name) was in her room, looking out at the window. She heard the door close from behind, meaning that Bucky has come back from whatever he was doing. (Name) looked at him, and he looked back.

“Bucky, I have a question.” (Name) turned to face the soldier properly. “Do you like me? That’s what everyone says.”

“As your best friend,” he removed his shirt, and (Name) turned to face the wall. “I do. I like you very much. What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t?”

“You’re right. Everyone is so worried.” (Name) yawned. “Today, I went to the park with Loki and we got ice cream.”

“What is your relationship with him?” Bucky asked immediately. Luckily, (Name) didn’t mind, she thought this was just him.

“I think he would be the best big brother ever. No offence to Tony, Bruce, Clint, Steve, and Thor.” She replied.

                “Good.” Bucky said. “Look here.”

“Huh? O-oh.” (Name) blushed at the sight of a shirtless Bucky. “S-should I-I…”

“No. Look at me.” Bucky went up to her and towered her. “Now smile.”

“Okay…” (Name) did her signature mini smile.

“You look beautiful. Now go to bed.” Bucky laid on the couch.

“T-thank you…?” (Name) was stunned and confused. What was the point of that?

“Goodnight, Bucky,” she turned out the lights. “You’re a weird friend.”

“We’ll be more than friends, (Name).”
