Chapter 3

Bucky x Reader (x Avengers)

Her delicate rosy hair was brushed by the wind. She looked at (Name) with a sinister grin, and crazed but comforting eyes. She walked closer, placing her hand on (Name)’s shoulder. (Name) stared at her, not being able to move now. The girls were in a middle of burning ruins, smoke was covering the skies, and the sound of roaring fire and painful screeches were heard.

“I have it,” such a beautiful voice came from soft lips. “Don’t worry (Name). I will rescue you.”

Rescue? (Name) didn’t think she was in danger. Or was she? The girl giggled, leaning over to her face and…

(Name) sat up, breaking into cold sweat. Looking around, she saw she was on the bed again.

“Are you okay?” Bucky looked up at her. (Name) blushed, Bucky must have slipped into bed with her and stayed throughout the night. “Its 4 hours till everyone wake up.”

“What are you…” (Name) was in a current state in panic.

“Hey, it’s okay. You were going all over the place and mumbling.” Bucky sat up, pulling her into a comforting hug. “Are you okay?”

(Name) hugged back. “Y-yes, she was there. She said she will rescue me.”

“… What? In a dream?” Bucky remembered her conversation with Loki yesterday. “What else?”

“She said she has it.” (Name) buried her face in his bare chest.

“Do you know what it is?”

                “No… I’m sorry.”

“It’s alright.” Bucky held her closely. “Let’s go back to sleep.”

“Okay,” (Name) followed, hugging Bucky as they both fell asleep.

------

“We are leaving today, but we are to return tomorrow.” Loki said to (Name), who wouldn’t let go of him. “I’m sure you’ll last, little one.”

“Come home quick okay?” (Name) muffled through his armor.

“I promise. Everyone promises.” Loki ruffled her hair, and gave an assuring smile.

Loki followed Thor outside, and Clint helped Natasha with bags. Tony and Bruce were in the car, talking or debating on whatever comes to past. (Name) turned to see Steve, talking to Bucky. It looked as if Bucky wanted Steve to return as well, same goes for herself and Loki. The two soldiers gave a brotherly hug, and Steve went on his way.

“You watch Bucky, okay?” Steve smiled at (Name), who in return nodded and smiled back. “The tower is yours for today, don’t hurt yourselves.”

Bucky and (Name) watched as the Avengers drove out into the rising dawn from the balcony. Bucky turned away as if to go back, but (Name) stayed until the vehicle was out of the horizon. She stepped back to turn, but only to bump into the winter soldier. Bucky stood tall, looking down at (Name).

                “I-I’m sorry,” (Name) mumbled, blushing.

“Watch where you’re going.” He said, and walked off.

For the rest of the day, (Name) decided to do the chores around the tower, although it was difficult to find any messes to spend the time. Bucky stayed in one spot, watching whatever was on the television. Soon after, (Name) was basically running up and down the tower, basement to roof, and roof to basement. Bucky came to realize, and stopped her along the kitchen. He caught her with a small parchment in her hand. Bucky swiped it out of her hands, only to see a grocery list.

“I thought you can’t go outside.” Bucky assumed she wanted to go to the market.

“Can you come with?” she asked. “Please?”

“Sure, come on.” Bucky headed down to the entrance.

(Name) quickly put on her socks and flats, and followed Bucky out into the quiet city. Quiet since the sun itself was still working its way to its peak. The crowd was moderate, enough room to look far ahead and space to move around. The cars were mostly parallel parked to the curbs, with a few rolling up and down traffic. The slideshow of the big screen switched to the time of 9:27.

“What are you doing?” Bucky looked back to see (Name) holding his hand. He blushed, a bit surprised at what she’s doing.

“So we won’t get lost and we won’t split.” She looked up at him with (e/c) eyes. “I don’t know where you’re taking me.”

As much as this was an advantage to Bucky, he didn’t want to get flayed when the Avengers come home. He gently pulled her along, relying on what’s left of his memory to know where the store was. In ten minutes, the two reached safely to their destination. (Name) grabbed a basket and wandered around the store with Bucky following behind.

“I thought you would melt if you went outside. Or lose your control.” Bucky said as he slipped in a box of fruit pies in her basket.

“Huh? No. I’m used to it.” (Name) grabbed a few cans off the shelf. “When Loki isn’t checking on me, I sit out in the roof and adjust to the noise.”

“Will they get mad if they find out we went out of the tower?” Bucky put in bags of sweets and chips into her basket.

“No, I’m sure they won’t.” (Name) walked into the next aisle, oblivious of what’s in her basket.

“Are you going to cook something?” Bucky noticed her standing in the dairy area.

“I don’t know how to cook. Or remember how to cook.” She picked up a lot of frozen dinner boxes. “… Oh, where did these come from?”

Bucky smiled at how the innocent phased (Name) shuffled through his choice of food. She then frowned for a bit, then shrugged, putting the small boxes inside. From there, he followed (Name) to the checkout line. Putting out the items into the belt, they moved forward. (Name) set the basket to the side, which is now not of use anymore.

“Hello,” the cashier smiled at the two. Bucky stared at her, whilst (Name) turning away and blushing, mumbling a ‘hi’. “You’re a strange couple.”

“She’s like that.” Bucky pulled (Name) close to him, his arm around her waist. (Name) squeaked, and the sun flared. Luckily, they were inside to notice the heat rise. The cashier giggled and put their items into a bag. (Name) used her credit card Tony gave her. The two leave the store carrying two bags, only to be in a denser crowd.

“Tell me when you want to run.” Bucky said worriedly, reminded what Steve had told him earlier before he left.

“She will always find ways to get out. Just be careful. And do not let her out during 11 in the morning to 6 in the evening. She will break, no matter where she is in the city. (Name) has to stay in the tower during those hours. It’s our rules for her.”

“I’m fine,” she smiled. “Thank you for worrying.”

Bucky looked up to see it was 10:54. “Come on (Name).”

He carried all the bags on his left, and dragged (Name) on his right. He saw more and more people and cars coming to and fro, and his urge of sprinting was rising. (Name) was starting to panic not because of the noise, but because of the force. Bucky cut through traffic and lines, and (Name) could hard walk, nearly tripping through each step. It was 10:57.

“B-bucky…” (Name) sniffled. The sky turned dark.

“We’re almost home.” Bucky assured her, finally stopping at an intersection.

(Name) took the time to collect herself, and looked around the crowds while everyone waited. Bucky was growing impatient, the time on the big screen was making him go under pressure. (Name) too was getting bombarded by yelling, sirens, and horns. She inched closer to Bucky, hugging his arm. And from the distance, what she saw from behind her made the skies flash into thunder.

                “T-that’s her.” She whispered.

“No time.” Bucky carried her bridal style, the bags hanging at his side.

He dashed against the crowd, jumping to every free space he needed. He ran through the traffic, leaping over cars. (Name) was literally screaming in shock, the rains poured down from the clouds, thundering while the sun was still shown. It made her leave a path of bursting circuits on each building. (Name) hung on to his neck, blushing and screeching onto every oncoming object. Bucky was too focused on taking her home before 11.

10:59. And the tower was a block away. Bucky huffed, merely sprinting. This was too much for (Name), she fainted on the spot. The skies cleared then and Bucky managed to step into the tower at exactly 11. He went up to the main floors, setting the exhausted and fainted (Name) on the couch. He set aside the bags, and went away to take a shower.

(Name) woke up an hour later. She ran up and down the tower again, spending the time. She decided to watch a few movies until evening, realizing how boring the tower could be without the full team inside. Then, the clock struck 8. She was had been watching too many movies since, and wondered how long Bucky was in the shower. Hungry, she took out a frozen dinner box and microwaved it according to the instructions. She sat on the counter, staring straight into the microwave. It turned out Bucky was busy polishing his guns and checking his metal arm before taking a shower. That means he recently took a shower.

“What are you doing?” Bucky saw (Name) take out a plate of beef and potatoes.

“I’m hungry—Oh Bucky, please put on a shirt,” (Name) blushed, immediately looking away and walking over to the dining area. “And some pants."

“Friends have nothing to hide.” Bucky reasoned, pulling out a bag of chips. “Besides, you forgot to do the laundry.”

“Oh.” She muttered. “I saw the girl who was in my dream.”

“Where?” he crunched on a chip.

“Behind us when we were waiting. She was laughing. At something.” (Name) took a small bite of her food.

“Don’t bother. That’s fine.” Bucky scooted next to her. “I’m here.”

“Okay,” she looked away, embarrassed to see him in only a towel. “If you say so.”

“I do say so. Now look at me.” Bucky demanded. (Name) looked at him, jumping a bit at how close their faces were.

Pulling away, he leaned back and continued to eat. “You smell like gasoline.”

“I’m sorry.” she sulked, eating her food, slowly but surely finishing it. “I’ll take a shower soon.”

Bucky gripped the plastic, missing an opportunity. (Name) pushed her plate away, getting a napkin from the table. Coming back, Bucky was caught eating her food.

“Too slow.” He said through eating some portion of her food. (Name) sat down, not knowing how to feel about the situation.

“Open.” Bucky said. (Name) slowly opened her mouth, and Bucky shoved a spoon full of potatoes inside. (Name) slowly chewed with her mouth full for once. Bucky looked at her, waiting for her to swallow. He scooped up beef and potatoes.

“Ah.” He lifted the spoon, amused at how she follows.

After spoon feeding her, he puts the dishes in the sink. (Name) hurriedly went to the bathroom, blushing, and conflicted with her feelings. She then took a long shower, trying to think what’s happening. She saw the pink haired lady. Bucky hugged her, carried her, and spoon fed her. What else? Bucky was such a… overly affectionate friend. Too much for a best friend. If only she could remember what that proper term for such meaning…

“Are you okay?” someone knocked on the door. “You’ve been in there for a long time. Have you turned into a fish?”

“I’m sorry!” (Name) called out, turning off the shower, and drying off. Opening the door, Bucky was nowhere to be found. Was that even Bucky?

After changing into her pajamas, she headed to her room. She froze. Where is Bucky?

“Hello,” a familiar voice rang her ears, so light and beautiful. “Are you ready to go?”

“Who are you…” (Name) started to get defensive, remembering what Loki said about confronting strangers. The woman turned to face her properly. She looked exactly the same from her dreams.

“Oh, that’s right. You’ve temporarily erased yourself to save the both of us from those humans. Thank you for the escape.” She giggled. “I am Serene. The Serene Witch.”

“Then… you’re the one they have been looking for.” (Name) stepped back.

“Hahaha! I’ve fooled them! I’ve sent a replica to the other side of this damned place.” Her laugh startled (Name). “Come! Let’s go and rule this hell. We’ll be goddesses! You and me!”

“B-but… Serene…” (Name) was in the verge of tears. What has she done before?

“Take this to shorten your time.” Serene handed her a small bottle of pink fluid. “I love your innocence. It’s sexy. But when you revert back to yourself, goodness! You’re like a destructive tempress! I’m so jealous, I would have to use charms for such natural ability.”

“O-oh…” (Name) looked down at the bottle.

“You’ll know when to summon me when you remember.” Then Serene vanished with a smoke.

(Name) hid the bottle deep inside her dresser. Upon closing it, Bucky bursts into the room.

“Who was here? What happened?” Bucky demanded, luckily he was at least wearing pants.

“She came… Her name is Serene.” (Name) replied.

“Are you okay?” Bucky’s eyes were filled with concern.

(Name) looked down, her eyes dark. “… I’m fine.”
